Rob Nichols turned in another stellar performance as the Huskies took the win in front of a sell-out crowd at the XL Center.

UConn, again, started the period with a silly penalty, this time on Joey Ferris. BC layered on shots, but UConn's defense laid their bodies out and helped out their net minder. The crowd roared with every clearance and reached full cheer with the call of interference on BC's Alex Tuch. The 4-on-4 ended without any shots. The power play was abruptly stopped when the linesman was clipped by what looked like a BC stick. Play resumed and UConn immediately went on the offensive, but the Eagles managed to kill it off.

Nichols made another fantastic save in the 13th minute, but the Huskies could not properly clear, leading to an icing. They finally got to change with around six and half minutes remaining before Nichols was called upon for another glove save. BC continued to press, but UConn did not relent. Rob Nichols grabbed another save, preventing any rebounds. Desperation time for BC was evident as they brought everyone above the blue line, but again UConn held strong, eventually forcing an icing to bring it back to BC's zone.

With two minutes left the crowd went absolutely bonkers, matching any basketball intensity. UConn held possession well with the crowd bellowing "LET'S GO HUSKIES." BC pulled their goalie with a minute left. UConn had a chance to bury one in the empty net but they waited a second too long. The face-off came back to the UConn zone and they held on for the win. This is UConn's 4th ever win against a ranked team and the highest ranked team they have ever beaten. Boston College was shut out for the first time in 106 games.

Special congratulations to the team, and to the home crowd, which was out of its mind for the last 5 minutes. We can safely say this is the single most important win in UConn hockey history. The game-winner comes from Boston College transfer Evan Richardson.

After a scoreless second period, the Huskies hold on to their 1-0 lead on the Eagles going into the final stanza.

UConn started off on the wrong foot with an early hooking penalty on Ryan Tyson 1:40 into the second period. Rob Nichols saved one with his face and a UConn defensemen came in to clear. BC was soon called for a hooking on Destry Straight which lead to a 4-on-4 for 40 seconds, and then a shortened UConn PP. UConn really couldn't get anything started until late in the power play, but to no avail. A breakaway almost snuck past Nichols in the fourth minute, but he batted it clear with help from the trailing defensemen.

UConn went on the PP at 8:33 with another penalty on Destry Straight, this time for a brutal WWE style takedown in front of all 3 refs. UConn had a few good chances, but left the PP empty handed. Rob Nichols had one of the better kick saves I've seen recently with the puck dribbling by his right post. BC went on the power play due to a fairly blatant tripping call on Ryan Segalla at 14:45.

Nichols was peppered with shots in a power play that saw BC take the lead in shots in the game, but the Huskies weathered the storm thanks to a valiant effort by the Huskies PK unit, followed directly by an icing on BC to break the tension. That led off a good three minutes of UConn offensive possession which saw one shot get deflected just wide of the net and two more saved by Demko before BC could get the puck on the other side of the ice. A quick wrister was picked out of the air by Nichols to hold the lead, but the Eagles kept their pressure up for the last minute before UConn could clear it out of the zone. Rob Nichols was congratulated by his teammates as the horn blew.

After one period, the Huskies have a 1-0 lead on an Evan Richardson power play goal

BC went on the attack early with speed, but UConn contained well. The Huskies had two good chances early, but both were stopped by BC's all-world goaltender Thatcher Demko. A decent break and opportunity in the third minute seemed like it would bounce in, but a seemingly floating, flipping puck was swatted out of the crease mid-air by a BC defenseman.

A hooking penalty at 3:59 on BC's Brendan Silk gave UConn their first PP. A good chance about 20 seconds in went just wide of the post, and BC ended up clearing after a few sweaty chances in front of the net. An offside slowed UConn's momentum and the Eagles successfully killed the penalty off.

The Huskies kept the Eagles on their heels with multiple steals and breaks, but made their first real mistake with an icing at 7:43. The Huskies recovered and forced Demo to make two stick saves. A great chance in front of the BC net led to a scrum that sent Ryan Fitzgerald to the penalty box for roughing at 10:31. Pauly netted the Huskies first goal on a wrister in the slot from Evan Richardson to beat Demko glove-side.

The two sides traded possession after the goal, but UConn committed its first penalty at 14:48 on a very shaky interference call on Poe. UConn had a tough time clearing the puck out of the offensive zone, leading to a few very shaky moments in front of net but UConn held strong, killing the PK with a number of blocked shots and three saves by Rob "ICEBUS" Nichols.

BC almost caught UConn on a change but the defense recovered quickly. An icing on BC lead to a UConn face-off win that almost caught Demko off-guard but he made an amazing snag with his glove. The period ended to thunderous applause from the nearly 7,000 fans in attendance.
