The UConn Huskies have had a very solid year by all accounts, and this has been shown by their consistent high-placement in the AP Top 25. The Huskies have remained in the top five on the poll every week of the regular season and that remains the case this week, as the UConn held steady at No. 4 after the Huskies won both of its games this past week, defeating DePaul and Butler.

This leaves the Huskies behind three teams, the 14-1 Purdue Boilermakers, 14-0 Houston Cougars, and 13-1 Kansas Jayhawks. This also keeps UConn ahead of 11-2 Kentucky, 11-3 Tennessee, and 11-3 UNC. As of now, UConn’s next ranked opponent will be No. 22 Creighton on Jan. 17 and No. 11 Marquette on Feb. 17.

Castle, Karaban early Big East weekly honors

UConn also received news that they had two players receive honors this week for their play. Stephon Castle received Big East Freshman of the Week honors for the third time this season, after averaging 14 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game for the Huskies this week on 11-16 shooting from the field (68.6%).

Alex Karaban also got some recognition from the Big East and was named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll for the third time this season. Karaban averaged 18.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game this week and was 7-10 (70%) three-point range this past week.
