UConn freshman Amari DeBerry is joining Azzi Fudd on the US U19 World Cup squad. After being named one of three finalists for the team in May, DeBerry officially made the roster on Monday.
The team will practice from July 21-27 before heading to Debrecen, Hungary, where the U19 World Cup will run from Aug. 7-19.
Trials for the team were held back in May, where DeBerry, Fudd and 2022 UConn commit Ayanna Patterson all competed for spots. While Fudd made the roster right away, DeBerry needed to earn her way on as a finalist.
Both players are familiar with USA Basketball. Fudd has already won gold at the 2017 FIBA Americas U16 Championship (at age 14) and the 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup while DeBerry helped the US win at the 2019 FIBA Americas U16 Championship.
The rest of the roster includes Lauren Betts (Stanford, 2022), Sonia Citron (Notre Dame, 2021), Caitlin Clark (Iowa, 2020), Sania Feagin (South Carolina, 2020 early enrollee), Diamond Johnson (NC State, 2020), Te-hina Paopao (Oregon, 2020), Jewel Spear (Wake Forest, 2020), Payton Verhulst (Louisville, 2021), Maddy Ware (Arizona, 2020) and Jersey Wolfenbarger (Arkansas, 2021).
