Former UConn women’s basketball guard Anna Makurat has signed with AZS AJP Gorzów Wielkopolski of the Basket Liga Kobiet, the top division in Poland.
“Anna Makurat, hailed by many basketball experts as the greatest Polish basketball talent of the 21st century, chose Gorzów for the further development of her career,” the team wrote in an announcement on Friday, translated from Polish.
“I am very excited that I will start my professional career in Gorzów,” Makurat said in the release, also translated from Polish. “As an athlete, I always strive for victories and I believe that this season will bring a lot of satisfaction and joy to both the club and all fans of Gorzów’s basketball!”
Makurat spent two seasons with the Huskies before deciding to pursue a professional career. She had a stellar freshman campaign where she averaged 7.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game while shooting 41.0 percent from three but struggled with a stress fracture as a sophomore and only played in 16 games.
Prior to arriving in Storrs, Makurat played in the Basket Liga Kobiet with Arka Gdynia. Her new club is located in western Poland, near the border with Germany.
