UConn women’s basketball will play a road contest against No. 15 Arkansas Razorbacks on Thursday, Jan. 28, the school announced Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. on ESPN2.
“When Vanderbilt opted out of the season Monday, we were lucky enough that UConn had a common open date as ours,” Arkansas head coach Mike Neighbors said. “A few texts and a couple of calls later, we got it all set.”
After the Huskies’ game against Georgetown on Saturday, Jan. 23, they weren’t scheduled to play again until Sunday, Jan. 31. By adding the Razorbacks to the slate, UConn will try to avoid another long layoff between games. The Huskies sat for 11 days prior to facing Providence and didn’t play for another 10 days before yesterday’s game against Butler.
UConn and Arkansas have only met once before, a 100-64 victory for the Huskies on Nov. 14, 1998. UConn has only played one non-conference game this year — the season opener against UMass Lowell — with another at Tennessee on the docket for Thursday.
Four of the Huskies’ non-conference matchups — Quinnipiac, Mississippi State/Maine, Louisville, and Baylor — were canceled due to COVID-19 issues.
UConn needs to play five more games to become eligible for the NCAA Tournament.
