UConn women’s basketball’s 2020-21 schedule is finally compliant with NCAA rules. On Tuesday, the school announced that it would postpone its series with Cal, Oklahoma and Texas in order to get under the limit of the NCAA’s maximum number of games.
The Huskies’ move to the Big East resulted in a shift from 16 conference games to 20, thus reducing the number of non-conference games they can play. However, by moving three non-conference games, UConn now has one open slot remaining for its 2020-21 non-conference schedule, which it plans to fill.
The Texas series — which was previously reported — was scheduled to begin this season and will be pushed back one year. UConn will host the Longhorns in 2021-22 and will travel to the Lone Star State during the 2022-23 season.
The Huskies have four-year series with Cal and Oklahoma which were set to finish up this season. UConn will now play the Sooners during the 2021-22 season and the Golden Bears in 2022-23 — both on the road — per the Manchester JI’s Carl Adamec.
So far, only three dates have been announced for the Huskies’ upcoming schedule: UConn will play in the Basketball Hall of Fame Challenge on Nov. 28-29, where the Huskies will face in-state foe Quinnipiac on Saturday and the winner of Maine/Mississippi State on Sunday. UConn’s second matchup in the revival series against Tennessee is also set for Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021 in Knoxville.
The school said the Huskies’ full schedule will be released “at a later time.”
