On Tuesday morning, UConn Athletics broke the news that their soon-to-be-independent football program has scheduled a 2025 showdown with the Buckeyes of Ohio State University.
According to the official announcement, the game is scheduled for Saturday, October 18, and will be the first-ever matchup between the two football teams.
This is the seventh game the Huskies have on the books for 2025 and gives them two matchups with Big Ten opponents that season, with a September 13 trip to Purdue already scheduled as part of a home-and-home agreement.
The announcement also mentioned that Ohio State has opted to pay UConn $1.95 million before the end of February 2026 instead of traveling to Storrs to complete a home-and-home series of their own. This is a huge boon for the Husky athletic department and supports the viability of football independence with Big East membership in all other sports.
Last year, Ohio State went 13-0 in the regular season before losing in the semifinals of the College Football Playoff. The Buckeyes have won 12 or more games in all but one of the last eight seasons, winning only 11 in 2016. UConn has won nine games in the past four years combined.
