Team USA basketball has added Katie Lou Samuelson to its roster. The 2019 WNBA Draft’s 4th overall pick will join fellow former Huskies Sue Bird, Tina Charles, Breanna Stewart and Diana Taurasi on the squad that will take on the current UConn Huskies in an exhibition at the XL Center on Monday, January 27th. The game will be on at 7 p.m. on ESPN2.
According to USA Basketball, Samuelson will play all five games of the women’s national team’s upcoming schedule, which will include a game at Louisville and a FIBA qualifying tournament in Serbia. She is a very familiar with Team USA, having competed on numerous youth national teams and participated in training camp for the senior team.
Samuelson recently completed her rookie season with the Chicago Sky. The California native dealt with injuries but still managed to play in 20 games, averaging 7.6 minutes and 2.4 points per contest. At UConn, she hit the second-most three-pointers in program history, was a three-time AP All-American, and also part of the highest-scoring Husky duo ever with Napheesa Collier. The two made the Final Four in all four of their seasons in Storrs and were freshmen on the 2016 national championship team.
