Dear Rutgers, thank you. Not only for your occasional comic relief, but also now for Jordan Hall. The UConn men’s soccer team beat Rhode Island last night 3-1 behind a hat trick from the Rutgers transfer, who now has UConn’s all five goals on the season.

The Huskies are 2-0 on the young season, and now come in at No. 23 nationally in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll.

The game against the Rams was initially set for Monday, but was postponed due to inclement weather. Rhode Island opened the scoring in the fourth minute on a cross-field pass that found its way past keeper Gianluca Catalano, UConn’s first goal conceded on the year.

The Huskies responded just under the 20th mark, when Hall slotted home a corner kick from junior Ahdan Tait that wasn’t cleared properly.

Just before the half, Hall struck again — this time off an early service in behind from captain Dayonn Harris. Harris and Hall linked up once more in the 61st minute, another early ball in behind the defense that Hall was able to finish smoothly with one touch. Harris now has three assists on the year to go with Hall’s five goals.

It’s been a gangbusters start to the season for the Huskies and Hall, calmly disposing of two teams that made the NCAA tournament last year.

Next up for UConn is a Friday night tilt on Sept. 6 against Farleigh Dickinson at Al-Marzook Field at the University of Hartford.
