UConn women’s basketball will be well-represented at Team USA’s upcoming training camp from Sep. 17-19 in Miami. Olivia Nelson-Ododa and Christyn Williams both got the call and are two of just six collegiate players invited to the camp. Sue Bird, Tina Charles, Napheesa Collier, Stefanie Dolson, Katie Lou Samuelson and Diana Taurasi will also be in attendance once their respective WNBA seasons end.
Players selected from the camp will play in the AmeriCup, a 10-team tournament taking place in Puerto Rico. The top eight teams will advance to play in the FIBA Americas Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which will take place in November. However, the US has already qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games.
Both Nelson-Ododa and Williams have spent plenty of time with USA Basketball recently as the two players were members of the 3x3 team that won gold at the PanAm games in Lima, Peru back in July.
While Geno Auriemma no longer serves as Team USA’s head coach, he still serves as a special adviser to the team. South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley is the current head coach of the national team.
