UConn in the WNBA: Napheesa Collier Named WNBA All-Star

Collier was selected as an injury replacement for captain A’ja Wilson.

On Friday, WNBA All-Star captain A’ja Wilson suffered an ankle sprain which will prevent her from playing in the All-Star game this coming weekend. With a replacement needed, former UConn star Napheesa Collier earned the nod to join the WNBA All-Star roster.

Collier, whose rookie season has been off to a fantastic start since opening night, is the first Minnesota Lynx rookie since fellow UConn alumnae Maya Moore (2011) to be named an All-Star.

Collier currently ranks 23rd in the league for total points scored (209), 21st in total rebounds (113) and 26th in assists (43). She also has 36 steals on the season, which ranks an third in the league. Additionally, she ranks among the top 15 in the league for blocks and win shares. Among her rookie class peers, Collier ranks third or better in all of the aforementioned stats.

Collier took to her Instagram Monday night, to express her excitement about being named an All-Star.

The All-Star draft will air live on ESPN2 tomorrow, at 9:30 p.m. ET, and will determine if Collier with play for Team Wilson or Team Elena Delle Donne. You can watch Collier, along with fellow former Huskies Kia Nurse and Tina Charles, in the WNBA All-Star game at 3:30 p.m. ET this Saturday on ABC.
