UConn Women’s Soccer Unveils 2019 Schedule

The Huskies are primed for a bounce-back season.

The 2019 UConn women’s soccer schedule is finally out. The Huskies will play 17 games total including nine “home” games at a site still to be determined.

After a pair of exhibition games, UConn opens the season on Thursday, August 22 at Providence before returning home three days later to face Fairfield in the home opener.

The Huskies don’t have many big names on the schedule with the Friars and Stags along with CCSU, Colgate, Brown, BU, Harvard and UMass Lowell filling out the non-conference schedule.

UConn opens conference play on Thursday, September 26 against the ECU Pirates. The regular season finale will also serve as the Huskies’ senior night when the Temple Owls come to town on Friday, November 1.

While no location for home games has been announced yet, Dillon Stadium is expected to be the site. Back in February, The UConn Blog reported that the school did have discussions about playing at Dillon and believed it to be their best option, but nothing had been agreed up. A potential holdup could be that UConn officials from both the athletic department and soccer teams want to see the stadium completed, which will not be until mid-July.

It’s possible the team uses multiple locations for a home field as Al-Marzook Field at the University of Hartford is also a possibility.

After an injuries plagued Margaret Rodriguez’s first season as head coach, UConn will be looking for a bounce-back season. The team will get Vivien Beil and Kess Elmore back — the Huskies’ top two scorers in 2017 — while all the returners should benefit from an added year of experience. UConn will likely have a new goalkeeper as well, which would be a major boost.
