A pair of UConn women’s basketball players recently went under the knife to repair injuries. The school announced senior point guard Crystal Dangerfield underwent left hip surgery on May 30 while Tennessee transfer Evina Westbrook underwent left knee surgery on June 4.
Both players are expected to make full recoveries and their timetable to return to full health is four months, meaning they should be ready to go for the start of the season.
Dangerfield’s absence over the summer means that Molly Bent and Ania Makurat will get more time to run the point during the team’s pickup games throughout the summer. Unfortunately for Westbrook, she won’t get a chance to integrate with her new teammates on the court, which could become a factor if she gets a waiver to play immediately this season.
