After playing each other six times in the last five seasons, UConn women’s basketball and South Carolina will continue seeing a lot of each other. According to the JI’s Carl Adamec, the Huskies and Gamecocks will extend their series into the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons.
UConn will play the host in the first season before making the trip down to Columbia, South Carolina the year after. The two schools are currently in the final of year of a four-year agreement signed back in 2016.
Over the years, South Carolina hasn’t put up much of a fight against the Huskies. UConn is 7-0 all-time against the Gamecocks including a comfortable 97-79 win this past season at the XL Center. The closest margin of victory was an 11-point win for the Huskies in 2017, UConn’s 100th-straight win at the time.
The Huskies’ 2020-21 non-conference schedule is becoming more clear with 10 opponents lined up. UConn will face Dayton, Little Rock, Maryland, Texas and South Carolina at home while heading out to play Baylor, Cal, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Virginia on the road. In 2021-22, the Huskies have five opponents set, all on the road: Little Rock, Maryland, Oregon, South Carolina and Texas.
Adamec also reported that UConn will open this upcoming season on Sunday, Nov. 10 against the Cal Golden Bears. The Huskies also opened their 2017-18 home campaign against Cal, with UConn taking a 82-47 victory. The location for the game is still to be determined but the Huskies’ home opener has been at Gampel Pavilion the last three seasons.
