Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi are coming home. USA Basketball announced the Women’s National Team will play an exhibition against UConn women’s basketball on Monday, Jan. 27, 2020 at the XL Center with a 7 p.m. tip-off. Bird and Taurasi are the two former Huskies’ on Team USA.
“I think it’s a great opportunity for the fans to see some of the best players in the world,” Geno Auriemma said in a release. “It’s a great opportunity for our players to play against some of the best players in the world. It’s an opportunity for the U.S. National Team to go around the country and build some momentum going into the Olympics. I wish we would have done it when I was coaching. It’s a tremendous idea, and I’m sure our fans are going to turn out.”
This is the third time UConn will face the national team. The first meeting came during the 1995-96 season with Team USA taking an easy 83-47 win. A little over a decade later in Nov. 2007, the national team again beat the Huskies with ease, 90-74.
Current UConn women’s basketball season ticket holders at the XL Center will have the first opportunity to buy their current seats at a discounted price for the game beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7 through Monday, Nov. 18. The remaining UConn basketball season ticket holders will have a chance to get tickets at the same discounted price beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19 until Thursday, Nov. 21.
