In the inaugural Connecticut Ice tournament, UConn men’s hockey will face Quinnipiac in the first game at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25. If they win, the championship game is Sunday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. All games will be played at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

“Yes, we’re excited. I’ve said all along that this was a no-brainer for the state of Connecticut. I think it’s gonna galvanize the strong hockey background,” UConn head coach Mike Cavanaugh said on a conference call with reporters. “And I’ve also said, I hope it’s not a flash in the pan. I hope it’s something that we can build on in the years to come. I think it just be great for the sport of hockey in this state.”

Historically, UConn is 11-19-2 all-time against the Bobcats but just 1-4 since joining Hockey East. Overall, the Huskies haven’t found much success against in-state rivals recently. UConn beat Yale for the first time last season and is winless in its last seven games against Sacred Heart.

The Bulldogs and Pioneers are paired for the later game, which is expected to begin at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 25.

UConn opened the season against Sacred Heart, battling to a 3-3 draw. The Huskies’ play their first game at the XL Center on Friday against Army.
