According to the UConn directory and multiple reports, UConn men’s basketball recruit Akok Akok is finally enrolled in the school and has joined the basketball team. The 6-foot-10 big man will redshirt the second semester of this season as a walk-on and begin playing at the start of the 2019-2020 season on full scholarship.
Akok was initially a class of 2019 recruit who began a post-grad year at Putnam Science Academy last fall but left the team in November. He committed to the Huskies on Dec. 1 over offers from Pittsburgh, Georgetown, Providence and Syracuse.
He can practice with the team and get acclimated to the college lifestyle this semester while also getting his body ready for the Division I level in the weight room. When next season begins, Akok will join 2019 commits James Bouknight and Jalen Gaffney as the freshmen on the team.
Due to the recent self-imposed penalties on the men’s basketball program, UConn only has one scholarship remaining for next season. It will likely go to another big, probably either a graduate transfer or junior college transfer if the Huskies don’t land 5-star 2019 recruit Precious Achiuwa.
