UConn football coach Randy Edsall put out his depth chart for Saturday afternoon’s game vs Cincinnati and once again, there are changes defensively and offensively some due to injuries.
In regards to the injuries, Edsall said Tahj Herring-Wilson and Marshe Terry will miss this weekend’s game with ankle injuries. The duo didn’t make the trip to Syracuse. Also, Eli Thomas is out for the game with neck injury as well as Keyion Dixon (undisclosed injury).
Defensively, Darrian Beavers moves to a starter at defensive tackle and will be backed up by AJ Garson. Travis Jones moves back outside to defensive end as the backup to Lwal Uguak. James Atkins also moves back inside replacing Ryan Fines as the backup to Caleb Thomas.
True freshman Pierce DeVaughn moves into the two-deep in an “OR” situation with Jonathan Pace at the other defensive end position. Kevin Murphy drops off the two-deep with all these changes along the front four.
With Thomas out at linebacker, another true freshman, Hunter Webb, joins the two-deep as he’ll back up Eddie Hahn. Jordan Morrison will back up Ian Swenson at the Husky with Marshe Terry out. Shamel Lazarus, who stored in place of the injured Herring-Wilson vs Syracuse, remains the starter this week at cornerback.
Tyler Coyle, who was injured in practice last week but played versus Syracuse, is now in an “OR” situation at safety with Oneil Robinson. Messiah Turner will now back up Omar Fortt.
Offensively with Dixon out, Donovan Williams will back up Tyraiq Beals this weekend. Mason Donaldson moves back into the two-deep as the backup to Hergy Mayala.
Edsall also stated that Khyon Gillespie will be out for the season after having ACL surgery on Tuesday.
