UConn head football Randy Edsall put out his first depth chart of the 2018 season on Sunday in anticipation of Thursday night’s season-opener versus UCF at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, CT.
As you might expect, there is a bit of youth on the two-deep with 20 first year players. 11 of them are on defense, with six on offense and three on special teams.

Some notes from the first depth chart of the season:
- Safety Marshe Terry, who is in charge of defense on the leadership council, is listed as a backup at the Husky position to Ian Swenson.
- Redshirt sophomore receiver Quayvon Skanes is not listed at any of the three receiver spots. While the Huskies have good depth at the position, freshman Heron Maurisseau is listed as a backup at slot receiver to Kyle Buss. Skanes is listed as the backup punt returner, however.
- 20 freshmen are listed on the depth chart, including 13 true freshmen. In the secondary, Terry is the only player listed that’s older than a redshirt sophomore.
- Luke Magliozzi is now the starting punter over last year’s incumbent Brett Graham.
- Not a long of clarity at defensive end with five starters listed.
- True freshman Christian Haynes gets the nod at right guard.
- Expect the depth chart to change frequently throughout the season. Edsall said the two-deep “doesn’t mean much” and players will competing for playing time all season long.
