After a one-year hiatus, UConn men’s and women’s basketball will once again kick-off the season with the First Night festivities at Gampel Pavilion on Oct. 12 according to Dave Borges of the New Haven Register. The event was cancelled last season due to renovations to repair the ceiling at Gampel.
After a one-year respite last year (due to Gampel renovations), First Night will return to #UConn on Oct. 12. Meaning we'll likely get to see Kwintin Williams in a dunk contest.

First Night will be a great way to drum up interest around the men’s basketball team, now led by Dan Hurley, after a rough two seasons for the Huskies.
Most importantly, we will finally get to see a dunk contest with Kwintin Williams. While he may not see a ton of minutes this season, Williams can dunk with the best of him. His Instagram account is a sight to see even for the casual sports fan.
However, Williams will have some competition. On the women’s side, freshman Olivia Nelson-Ododa has some strong dunking skills of her own and is looking to be the first player to jam the ball in program history.
It’s great news that First Night is back and hopefully it will remain a fixture for years to come.
