The bracket for the 2018 Paradise Jam was announced today and the UConn women’s basketball team will play in the Reef Division with Ole Miss, Purdue and St. John’s. The Huskies have played in the Paradise Jam in 2007 and 2012, winning the division title both times. They are 99-38 all-time in regular season tournaments and have not lost in one since 1992.
Based on its draw for the tournament, it is unlikely UConn’s streak will end in the Virgin Islands — despite the departure of seniors Kia Nurse and Gabby Williams along with Azura Stevens. Ole Miss, their first opponent on Nov. 22, struggled to a 12-19 record and won just a single game in SEC play. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
The next day, the Huskies will play former Big East foe St. John’s, who went 19-15 last season and reached the quarterfinals of the WNIT. The Red Storm are the last team to beat UConn at Gampel Pavilion, doing so on Senior Day in 2012. The Huskies hold a 40-17 advantage all-time in the series.
UConn’s final game in the U.S. Virgin Islands comes against Purdue on Nov. 24. The last meeting came in the Huskies’ last Paradise Jam in 2012, a game UConn won handily, 91-57. Purdue wasn’t bad last season, compiling a 20-14 record en route to the WNIT Round of 16.
All three of the Huskies’ games will tip-off at 7:30 p.m EST and will be broadcast on FloHoops.com.
UConn’s 2018-19 non-conference opponents are now all but locked-in, as the three matchups puts the Huskies at 14 games outside the conference. In comparison, UConn played 13 non-conferences games last season.
According to SNY’s Carl Adamec, the Huskies will play DePaul, Ohio State, Seton Hall, South Carolina and Vanderbilt at home and St. Louis, Baylor, Cal, Louisville, Notre Dame and Oklahoma on the road in addition to their Paradise Jam opponents.
