Stevens, Susi Earn Weekly Conference Player of Week Honors

Additionally, Katie Lou Samuelson and Gabby Williams were named finalists for the women’s Naismith award.

This past weekend was a busy one for UConn Huskies athletics. After it was all said and done, we saw two Huskies receive weekly player of the week honors from the American Athletic Conference.

UConn women’s basketball’s first player off the bench, Azura Stevens, was named the player of the week for women’s basketball in a week where the Huskies went 3-0. Also, UConn baseball’s Zac Susi was named player of the week for baseball after the team went 2-1 in Louisiana.

Stevens averaged 19.7 points and 7.7 rebounds in wins over Tulane, SMU, and USF. Against Tulane, she scored 23 points and three rebounds and against SMU she had 14 points and 14 rebounds. She closed out the regular season by leading UConn in scoring against USF with 21 points while pulling down six boards.

Against Southeastern Louisiana, Susi hit .429 (6-for-14) with five RBIs and a double for the 24th-ranked team in the country according to Baseball America. Susi had multi-hit performances in two of the three games.

The UConn baseball team returns to action this weekend in Jacksonville, FL when they take on the North Florida Ospreys in a three-game set beginning on Friday night at 6:05 p.m. The games will be broadcast live on the North Florida Ospreys Facebook page and also on WHUS-FM.

The UConn women’s basketball team will go for its fifth straight AAC Tournament championship (bracket) beginning Sunday at 6:30 p.m. when they take on the winner of the game between No. 8 Memphis and No. 9 Tulane. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU, WatchESPN and also on the UConn IMG Radio Network as well as the TuneIn App.
