After a two-year hiatus, the UConn men’s soccer team is back in the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies received the final at-large bid and will host A-10 Champions and local rivals Rhode Island in the first round on Thursday.
Update: Due to the threat of snow, the game has been moved up to 1 p.m. on Thursday.
The game will be played at Rentschler Field. Morrone Stadium is unavailable due to the construction of the new soccer stadium.
The two teams were supposed to play back on Sep. 11, but the game was rained out and was not rescheduled.
Both Rhode Island and UConn received Top 25 votes in the last United Soccer Coaches poll. The Rams were 15-4 this year, beating George Mason 2-0 in the A-10 finals. They are paced by senior midfielder Dominik Richter out of Germany, who has nine goals and five assists on the year.
The winner of game will travel to Indiana to face the tournament’s No. 2 overall seed. UConn lost to the Hoosiers on Sep. 2 in a tight 1-0 match.
