UConn got into a shootout with SMU on Saturday and ended up on the wrong side of a Big 12-esque 62-50 final score. With just two games left on the slate, this is how ECU and Temple fared on Saturday.
ECU (2-7) - Nov. 17
ECU was driving in the final seconds, trailing Tulane 24-18. They tried to spike the ball just over midfield to give themselves a shot to tie the game, the Pirates committed a false start penalty, ending the game. It was close through the first half, but the Green Wave created some separation after the break.
Holton Ahlers was 21-of-67 passing for 360 yards with two touchdowns against an interception, rushing for 67 more yards. He accounted for all but 23 of ECU’s total yards on the day.
Temple (6-4) - Nov. 24
Houston’s slide continues as Temple became bowl eligible thanks to 210 yards and six touchdowns on the ground from Ryquell Armstead in a 59-49 victory. Temple forced three Cougar turnovers, but the hosts were within a touchdown late into the fourth quarter until an Owl field goal with 1:41 remaining ended hopes of a comeback.
Anthony Russo was an efficient 14-of-22 passing for 217 yards, while Rob Ritrovato picked up 91 rushing yards and a score.
