On Thursday, the AP released their preseason All-Americans and UConn women’s basketball’s Katie Lou Samuelson was named to the preseason team for the second-consecutive year. Samuelson was named to the AP’s First Team after both her sophomore and junior seasons.
The senior received 28 of 31 available votes, after averaging 17.4 points per game and shooting 47.5 percent from beyond the arc in her junior season. Samuelson’s vote total is behind only Asia Durr (Louisville) and Sabrina Ionescu (Oregon), who both received 29 votes. The remainder of the team was rounded out by Arike Ogunbowale (Notre Dame) and Kalani Brown (Baylor).
Napheesa Collier was not named to the team, but was among four additional players who received votes. Collier, who was named to the first team after her sophomore year and third team last year, tallied four votes.
Both Samuelson and Collier will tip-off their senior seasons, and quest for a spot on the AP First Team in March, next Sunday (Nov. 11) against Ohio State.
