UConn Huskies head coach Randy Edsall put out his depth chart for Saturday’s game against the Memphis Tigers and once again there are multiple changes in all three phases.
Edsall stated during his weekly press conference that Marshé Terry, Tahj Herring-Wilson, Eli Thomas, Ryan Fines and Zordan Holman will miss the game due to injury.
He also announced that freshmen Christian Haynes, Heron Maurisseau, Pierce DeVaughn, Hunter Webb, Jalon Ferrell and Jordan Morrison will all redshirt. Terrence Ganyi and Khyon Gillespie had previously been reported to be redshirting this season.
Running back Dante Black will most likely be redshirting this season too unless (knock on wood) an injury happens to Kevin Mensah or Zavier Scott.
On the offensive side, Haynes will be replaced as the backup to Nino Leone by Robert Holmes. Garrison Burnett will take Maurisseau’s place as the back up to Kyle Buss. Cameron Hairston enters the two-deep this week as he’ll take the place of Mason Donaldson as the backup to Hergy Mayala.
On the defensive side, Morrison is replaced on the depth chart at Husky by Robert King III while Ryan Gilmartin will take the place of Webb as Eddie Hahn’s backup.
The defensive front four shuffles around again as Darrian Beavers moves from defensive tackle to defensive end, Travis Jones from a backup defensive end to a starting defensive tackle with Kevin Murphy backing him up taking the spot of DeVaughn.
There’s an interesting situation at kicker which Edsall said will be decided during competitions this week at practice and mostly likely during warmups on Saturday. Clayton Harris, Noah Iden and Michael Tarbutt will all battle to be the place kicker. Tarbutt had been the starter but missed a field goal on Saturday against Cincinnati that changed the complexion of the game.
