The first week of classes at UConn has come to a close and fall sports are under way. The same can be said for Huskies earning weekly awards from the American Athletic Conference.

Men’s Soccer carried the mantle this week, grabbing the defensive player and goalkeeper of the week in the American as well as placing two players on the five-man honor roll.

Redshirt sophomore Nkosi Burgess has been playing center back for the Huskies this season and has been part of a stout back line, allowing just one goal in over 183 minutes of play this week, earning defensive player of the week.

Redshirt senior Scott Levene received goalkeeper of the week honors for his four-save, one goal week. He made three against No. 9 Notre Dame and one against Quinnipiac, earning a clean sheet against the Bobcats.

Freshman Blaise Tohou-N’Gague contributed with a pinch start at center back against the Fighting Irish and Abdou Mbacke Thiam scored the overtime game-winner against Quinnipiac. They were both on the honor roll.

Additionally, UConn Football’s Nate Hopkins was on the honor roll for his 130-yard, three touchdown performance in their 27-20 win over Holy Cross.

Men’s Soccer plays Georgetown at home on Saturday at 7 p.m., while their women counterparts play on Thursday at Morrone Stadium against Arkansas, also at 7 p.m. and against Fordham in the Bronx on Sunday at 1 p.m. Football plays No. 19 USF at Rentschler Field on Saturday at 12 p.m.
