The UConn Huskies men’s and women’s soccer teams had an overtime-filled week, with three of their four matches heading to extra time. The men’s squad went 1-0-1 while their female counterparts were less successful, finishing 0-1-1.
Regardless, each team had players named to the five-member American Athletic Conference honor roll this week.
The men had two in Andrew Geres and Abdou Mbacke Thiam. Geres played a strong week defensively against the Hofstra Pride, a 1-0 victory, as well as in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with North Florida.
Mbacke Thiam scored all three of UConn’s goals this week, scoring the game-winner against Hofstra and the first two goals of the match against the Ospreys, less than a minute apart.
For the women, Vivien Beil earned her spot on the honor roll with a pair of goals, one in each of their matches, a 3-2 loss to Long Beach State and a 2-2 tie with Colorado College, both in extra time.
