UConn Football Recruiting: RB Khyon Gillespie Commits to Huskies

The Huskies pick up another running back for the class of 2018.

Ian Bethune - The UConn Blog

The commitments continue to come in for UConn football as running back Khyon Gillespie becomes the second commitment of the day for the Huskies.

A native of Hartford, CT, Gillespie is listed at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds. A two-way player at Capital Prep, Gillespie will most likely play running back at UConn. During his junior season, he ran for 1,750 yards on just 167 carries, a ridiculous 10.5 yards-per-carry average. He found the end zone 22 times and surpassed the 100-yard mark in 10 games.

Gillespie is the third Connecticut native to commit to UConn in the class of 2018 joining Dillon Harris and Kevon Jones, both linebackers.

While Gillespie is not rated by any recruiting sites, it was still early in the process for him. He hadn’t yet garnered any interest out of the state with Central Connecticut as his only other offer. However, as an in-state prospect, UConn was able to identify him early and potentially get ahead of future interest.

With Malik Banks committing yesterday, Gillespie is the second recruit to commit to the Huskies in as many days.
