UConn Baseball Falls to Bryant

After a strong weekend in which UConn Baseball got the sweep against Memphis, the Huskies took a step back against Bryant, taking a 9-3 loss.

Ronnie Rossomando gave UConn five innings, allowing just one run, but an eight-run sixth inning given up by the bullpen erased his strong outing.

Seven of the Huskies’ nine starters recorded hits, with only first baseman Chris Winkel notching multiple to go along with a RBI. Second baseman Conor Moriarty drove two runs in to lead UConn offensively.

After a quiet start, the Huskies broke out for three runs on three hits in the fourth.

Winkel had runners on the corners with two out and came through with a single to score right fielder Isaac Feldstein. Moriarty doubled on a 0-1 count into the left-center gap the following at-bat to bring home Winkel and left fielder John Toppa to give UConn a 3-0 lead.

Bryant got one back in the fourth before taking the lead in the sixth.

Doug Domnarski struggled in relief. He faced four batters, allowing three hard hits and a walk before being replaced by Ryan Radue.

Radue got an out but did not fare much better, allowing a walk and a single and had a runner reach after an error by shortstop Anthony Prato.

CJ Dandeneau came in to pitch and was welcomed to the game by Mickey Gasper with a three-RBI triple just inside the right-field line to make it 8-3 in favor of Bryant.

When the dust settled on the sixth, 14 Bulldogs had stepped to the plate, eight of them scored a run and seven registered a hit. Two had multiple hits in the inning as Bryant took a 9-3 lead which would hold for the final.

UConn (19-11) will head to Tulane next for their a three-game weekend series. The Huskies will send Tim Cate to the mound for a 7:30 p.m. first pitch on Thursday.
