After just missing the cut for a 5-seed and a first-round bye, the UConn Huskies will open conference tournament play against last-seed USF at 8 p.m. in Hartford.
Though once again the Huskies struggled in conference play this year, they did sweep the hapless Bulls in two regular season meetings quite comfortably. The most recent meeting occurred in Storrs, where UConn won by 46.
Jalen Adams and Vance Jackson have been hampered by injuries but it appears the two will be playing. Adams sprained his ankle in the loss to SMU and Jackson has been on concussion protocol since an incident on the flight back from a disappointing loss to East Carolina.
With a win, UConn would advance to face 3-seed Houston. The Cougars swept the Huskies in the regular season, though Adams was out with an injury in the road contest. After that they’re likely to meet Cincinnati, who will be playing the winner of No. 7 Tulsa vs. No. 10 Tulane.
The road to defending the conference tournament crown will be a tough one, but hopefully the Huskies can make a run and salvage some pride in what has been a disheartening season, even if most of the disappointment can be attributed to injury.
