On Wednesday, the first early signing period for football commenced and Randy Edsall started to officially add the pieces for UConn’s 2018 recruiting class, including running back Khyon Gillespie from Hartford.
The in-state product will graduate from Capital Preparatory Magnet School in Hartford in the spring after committing to the Huskies this past June. Since he committed fairly early in the process, his only offer was Central Connecticut State.
Gillespie is listed as a two-star prospect by both Rivals and 247. Both sites have him at 6-foot-1 and about 180 pounds.
He carried the ball for 1,408 yards according to MaxPreps for 10.1 yards per carry, including a 99-yard scamper. He crossed the goal line 13 times on the ground in 10 games, adding 422 receiving yards for two more scores.
He also had 48 total tackles playing safety in 2017 and also played with fellow signee Oneil Robinson.
