Game 2:

Lines and starting lineups:

Starting lineup: Spencer Naas, Maxim Letunov and Kasperi Ojantakanen are the forwards, with Johnny Austin and Adam Karashik behind them. Adam Huska is between the pipes.

Live Updates:

First Period:

0:00- and the game is on! The Huskies are in white, heading from right to left. Vermont is in green.

7:55- No goals and no penalties but it has been a great period for the Huskies. Almost all of it has been in Vermont’s zone.

9:26- Trey Phillips off for interference and the first power play goes to the Huskies.

11:33- Stefanos Lekkas stops most of Max Kalter’s shot from the high slot but it dribbles across the goal line behind him and in. 1-0 Huskies.

18:42- David Drake gets the gate for interference. Tough time to give up a penalty but the Huskies are up 1-0.

20:00- That was a great period from the Huskies. They were getting traffic in front of the net, came out hard and got a goal. Can’t ask for much else. Shot attempts were only 19-to-14 in favor of the Huskies, but they were kept largely to the perimeter, whereas UConn was in dangerous areas throughout.

Second Period:

0:00- And the period is on!

2:31- David Drake off for roughing.

2:41- Ross Colton with a chance down low and he ties proceedings.

2:49- Justin Howell! Benjamin Freeman threw a puck at the crashing Howell and he put it behind Lekkas. 2-1 Huskies.

5:34- Miles Gendron off for roughing. Vermont (1-for-1) back to the power play, but UConn is up 2-1.

12:06- Joe Masonius took a laser of a shot from the left point and it deflects off of Jeff Wight’s stick and in. Strong celly from the senior after the puck found twine. 3-1.

12:14- Spencer Naas channels his inner baseball player and bats in a rebound. The Huskies are coasting, up 4-1.

19:44- Philip Nyberg to the box for interference.

20:00- UConn with another strong period and a complete collapse is the only thing separating them from a victory. Shots were 19-to-6 in favor of the home team and despite the power play goal from the Catamounts, the Huskies got more chances than they did in the first 20 minutes while continuing to minimize scoring opportunities on the other end.

Third Period:

0:00- And the period is on! 20 minutes to glory for the Huskies.

9:44- UConn is still keeping the Catamounts at arm’s length, but Kalter is to the box for tripping. 4-1 advantage for the boys in blue.

14:19- Cavanaugh takes his timeout.

15:19- Spencer Naas grabbed his second of the game on a rebound and it is now 5-1.

16:40- Craig Puffer called for contact to the head.

19:14- Jesse Schwartz to the box. Five minutes for boarding.

20:00- This was a really strong effort from the Huskies. Even in the third, with the game largely in hand, UConn kept the pressure up and never stopped bringing it to the Catamounts. This bodes well for tomorrow’s matinee if they can play this type of game again.
