The UConn Huskies are ready to start their season in Storrs. Unlike last year, they need to rip through the start of their schedule. How the new pieces gel together and who seems willing to step up will be important no matter the opponent.

Tonight’s partner in UConn’s development is Colgate University. Coming off a 10-22 season and 8-10 performance in the Patriot League, the Raiders should provide a soft open to the season. They’re ranked 174th in the country in KenPom, which predicts a 75-64 win.

So far it’s still unknown what Jalen Adams’ status is after his legal mishap earlier this week. It looks like at the very least he won’t be starting the game.

If so, a shorthanded Husky team will be even more reliant on the new guys to step up. Perhaps being thrown into the fire like this will pay dividends down the road, but it’s certainly not ideal for Adams to be in this current situation given how important the start of this season is.

We’ll have live updates here throughout the game. Feel free to share your pregame thoughts and predictions in the comments and stick around to offer your thoughts.

Live Updates

1st Half

10:24 - UConn leads 20-13 and has looked good doing it. Ollie has been rotating a lot of guys, and Terry Larrier has very much looked the part of the dynamic scorer we’re hoping he’ll be. He leads the Huskies with eight points while Antwoine Anderson, starting in place of Jalen Adams is next with six points on two 3-pointers. The offense is moving the ball well and rebounding has looked okay so far.

7:12 - UConn up 25-19. Colgate has shot well to keep it close, but UConn is still looking like the better team. Alterique Gilbert has looked good on both sides of the floor, helping force a turnover on the perimeter and hitting a nice running floater to answer a Colgate three-point play.

3:58 - Colgate is keeping it close, but the Huskies are still on top 29-25. Things are pretty even in shooting percentage and rebounds and UConn’s offense has gone missing, with just two field goals in the past seven minutes. They need to get it together and end the half strong to keep a comfortable margin heading into the locker room

0:00 - UConn takes a 33-31 lead into the break. The offense disappeared down the stretch as the Huskies lost their comfortable lead. Overall things have looked decent, and there’s a lot to be excited or intrigued by. Larrier leads them with 12 and Anderson is second with six. Alterique Gilbert and Tyler Polley have shown flashes, with four points each. Eric Cobb leads the Huskies with six rebounds. Defensively, Colgate was able to get some easy buckets but UConn looked pretty good overall, forcing nine turnovers.

2nd Half

20:00 - The second half is underway!

15:52 - UConn leads 40-31. Tyler Polley hit a three to reach seven points on the night as the Huskies mount a 7-0 run to begin the second half.

11:46 - UConn leads 44-37. Terry Larrier continues his solid play with 18 points and some nice looking moves within 15 feet.

7:46 - UConn looking like they’re about to pull away for good up 51-40. Ollie is getting a lot of guys in and they’re all playing decently well. Freshman Isaiah Whaley has six points after three quick put-back buckets. UConn may have a deep rotation of solid contributors this year.

2:31 - Colgate is staying within arms reach but UConn seems to answer back every time. The Huskies are up 59-52 and a lot of different guys are getting run. This game is definitely closer than we want it to be but UConn’s playing with confidence.

0:19.2 - Terry Larrier takeover to seal the win for the Huskies. UConn up 70-58

END - UConn wins, 70-58!
