Live Updates:
First Period:
0:00- And the game is on! The Huskies will go from right to left in their home whites, while No. 7 Boston University is in their reds with white trim.
0:17- Spencer Naas off for high-sticking. Boston University to the power play, they were 0-for-1 yesterday.
1:09- Boston University scores. Bobo Carpenter now has three goals on three back-handed shots.
1:29- 20 seconds apart, BU gets another. Patrick Curry from Jordan Greenway and it’s 2-0.
8:19- Two minutes for tripping against Patrick Harper. Huskies were 2-for-3 on the power play yesterday. 2-0 in favor of the Terriers so far.
11:57- Brandon Hickey to the box for cross checking. UConn is back up a man, they are 0-for-1.
16:43- Wow UConn needs a goal bad. Patrick Curry found a puck going from Huska’s right to his left and his shot beat Huska inside the post on his glove side. 3-0 No. 7 leads.
20:00- That was not a good showing from the Huskies. One was on the power play, but the Terriers still scored two goals in 20 seconds and grabbed another late after coming out really flat. Mike Cavanaugh and his crew need to come out really hard in the middle 20 minutes or else it’s really going to get away from UConn.
Second Period:
0:00- And the period is on. Wasn’t a great first stanza, but a new period can be a new game.
4:50- Holding on David Drake. Boston University is 1-for-1 this afternoon and are ahead 3-0.
9:38- The Huskies could use a goal, they’re going on the power play after a John MacLeod hook.
9:49- Ask and ye shall receive. Alexander Payusov on the wraparound and it is now 3-1 in favor of the boys from the eastern end of Commonwealth Avenue.
11:24- Don’t call it a comeback. Derek Pratt took a shot from the point and Jake Oettinger was out of position. When the puck pinballed back out the other side, Spencer Naas bounced it off of Oettinger and in. 3-2, No. 7 still in front.
13:21- Corey Ronan to the penalty box for holding. This is going to be a huge pivot point in the game. Huskies hold them, they keep the momentum, BU scores, well it might be insurmountable.
14:32- Bobo Carpenter now has four goals against UConn this weekend. He buries a rebound from the bottom of the left circle and it is now 4-2 BU.
20:00- The score through 40 minutes is Bobo Carpenter 2, UConn 2. There isn’t much else to say other than he has really come into his own this season and will be a sought after free agent at the NHL level. UConn played better in the second period, but Boston University is still one of the top teams in the country and when they’re on, it’s almost impossible to get the better of them.
Third Period:
0:00- And the period is on! Can the Huskies force overtime against the Terriers?
0:27- Brandon Hickey has a heavy shot. He beats Adam Huska high and to the glove side from the top of the right circle. 5-2 Terriers over Huskies.
5:18- On a blocked shot, Kasperi Ojantakanen scores. The senior was in the middle of the slot and went high to the glove side of Oettinger. 5-3.
13:36- Two important minutes will come off the clock as Corey Ronan is to the box with UConn down 5-3.
14:46- Hat trick for Bobo Carpenter. He has five on the weekend. It’s 6-3 Boston University.
17:17- Tripping on Chase Phelps. Let’s see if UConn can grab some momentum.
18:41- 36 seconds of five-on-three on tap. Jordan Greenway is the guilty Terrier.
19:54- Brandon Hickey is to the box for slashing.
20:00- The long and short of this contest was that Boston University is an elite team that was highly motivated. They had played not-so-great three games straight and needed to show that they are a force to be reckoned with. They did just that on the back of a Bobo Carpenter hat trick and a strong game from Jake Oettinger. It is now up to the Huskies to respond with a strong game of their own on Friday on the road against Miami (OH).
