Christian Vital Named AAC Rookie of the Week

Gabby Williams and Jalen Adams were also named to the Honor Roll.

UConn Men’s Basketball is on a three-game winning streak after a 2-0 week combined with last Sunday’s win over East Carolina.

The Huskies notched a convincing victory over USF on the road and followed it up with Saturday’s gutsy defeat of Tulane, when they were down as much as 26-13.

Each game featured six healthy scholarship players and Christian Vital was given AAC Rookie of the Week award for his efforts in the two wins.

On Wednesday against the Bulls, he shot 5-for-7 from three-point range on the way to a 17-point performance in 24 minutes of play. He chipped in with five steals as well.

Against Tulane, he had a double-double, registering 14 points and 10 rebounds. He hit all six of his free throws and added five assists.

Jalen Adams earned Honor Roll honors as well. Against USF, he had game-highs 20 points and12 assists. He added eight points and six assists against Tulane.

The women’s basketball team pushed their winning streak out two more games to 95 consecutive victories with wins against East Carolina and Houston.

Gabby Williams became the fifth Husky to register a triple-double against the Pirates with 16 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists. She added 19 points, 10 rebounds and five assists on Saturday against Houston.

As for the men’s hockey team, they split their two games, getting the win against No. 11 Vermont but falling to No. 13 Boston College.

Freshman Adam Huska got the starting nod against the No. 11 team in the nation and made 34 saves on 35 shots in the outing, allowing his only goal on a shot that went in off the post with just 2:28 left in the 3-1 victory.

The men’s basketball team is off until Saturday when they hit the road to take on No. 14 Cincinnati. The women’s basketball team plays Temple on the road on Wednesday before playing Tulsa in Gampel Pavilion on Sunday, while men’s hockey has a home-and-home series with Merrimack. They play Friday in North Andover and they close it out with a Saturday matinee at XL Center.
