The Orlando Business Journal compiled the 20 most valuable NCAA apparel deals, with UConn’s Nike deal coming in at the 14th in the country. Texas’ deal with Nike is far and away the most valuable at $12.85 million.
UConn’s deal, worth $4.48 million, is more valuable than that of Georgia ($3.81 million), LSU ($4.3 million), and Florida State ($4.21 million).
The Huskies are one of two members of the “Group of Five” ranked in the top-20, with the other being Cincinnati, whose deal with Under Armour is slightly higher than UConn’s at $4.7 million.
By conference, the Big Ten leads the way, with seven of the 14-member conference among the 20 most valuable. The SEC is not far behind, with five, while the ACC has three.
The Big 12 has as many top-20 deals as the American Athletic Conference, but two leading realignment candidates could double that number (Hint, hint, Bob Bowlsby).
The Pac-12 only has one member in the top 20, UCLA’s $8.9 million deal with Adidas.
As far as how brands break down, Nike has two of the top-five and 10 of the top-20. Adidas has six of the top-20, four of which are in the top-10. Under Armour takes the remaining six of the top-20.
In conclusion, UConn is not only good at sports, but also one of the most valuable business partner’s available in the NCAA for companies looking to expand their #brand and gain #exposure in key markets and demographic groups.
