Class of 2017 Recruit Makai Ashton-Langford Commits to UConn

The highly-rated point guard will be a senior at Brewster Academy in the fall.

Kevin Ollie has his first commit for the 2017 recruiting class and potentially the next great guard to play in Storrs. Makai Ashton-Langford, a four-star recruit who recently transferred to Brewster Academy, committed to the Huskies on Monday, as first reported by Adam Finkelstein.

The 6-foot-3 prospect plays his summer ball for Mass Rivals and is Rivals’ 40th ranked player nationally in the class of 2017. 247 Sports and ESPN Recruiting have him ranked 33rd in the nation. Current Husky guard Jalen Adams also attended Brewster Academy and played for Mass Rivals.

Before transferring, Ashton-Langford helped bring Cushing Academy to the New England final, where they lost to Vermont Academy. He also helped lead Mass Rivals to two summer championships in Adidas’ top tournaments, scoring 16 points while adding six rebounds and three assists in the final of the Adidas Finale.

He chose the Huskies over Louisville and Providence, whom he said were his final three in an interview in August.

Ashton-Langford will join a talented crew of ballhandlers on next year’s team. If Jalen Adams sticks around, UConn’s newest commit will reunite with his old teammate and also be on the court with Alterique Gilbert.

The extraordinary lineage of UConn point guards is set to continue for a while now. With Kevin Ollie at the helm, Storrs will undoubtedly be a top destination for the country’s top point guard recruits. Hopefully, UConn can build on this with some much-needed low-post talent in this upcoming recruiting cycle.
