The UConn football team enters its third season under head coach Bob Diaco after making the St. Petersburg Bowl last year, where the Huskies finished last season at 6-7 and 4-4 in the American Athletic Conference. UConn looks to start 2016 on a high note and has hopes of returning to a bowl game this season.

Maine comes into the game with a new head coach in Joe Harasymiak who has been part of the Black Bears staff since 2011. He was previously the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. The team won just three games in 2015 (3-8) and was 3-5 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Maine has a history of playing FBS teams tough so the Huskies, some of whom remember a 2013 loss to FCS Towson, should not overlook them.

The two teams played each other on a regular basis when the Huskies were playing in Division 1-AA. UConn owns a 39-31-3 advantage over the Black Bears in a series that started in 1922. The two teams last met on the gridiron in 2007, a 38-0 Husky victory behind two touchdown passes from Tyler Lorenzen.

The Huskies will be led out onto the field by captains LB Matt Walsh, RT Andreas Knappe, DT Mikal Myers, all seniors, and junior quarterback Bryant Shirreffs.
