UConn already has three commitments from the 2018 baseball class and just got their third, the first from outside of Connecticut. Michael Yarin, of Winchester, Massachusetts, just completed his sophomore year at St. John’s Prep in Danvers, Mass. and will be heading to Storrs as a part of the 2018 recruiting class.
Yarin played third base and outfield for St. John’s this year, hitting for a .317 average. He had two home runs while driving in 23 runs and was a Catholic Conference all-star who helped St. John’s make the Super Eight, a double elimination tournament whose participants are selected by a committee out of all the public and private schools that are Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association members.
The Eagles made the final of that tournament and Yarin was a big reason why. They lost their opening matchup with eventual champion Braintree and won five straight games before losing 3-2 in the final. In their second game of the losers’ bracket against BC High, Yarin went 5-for-5 with a home run in a 12-1 win.
