Baseball

Nick Ahmed [Arizona Diamondbacks]:

  • Week: Ahmed is eligible to be activated from the 15-day disabled list on August 7. He has a right hip impingement.
  • Season: In 90 games, Ahmed has a slash line of .218/.265/.299. He has four home runs and 20 RBI, to go along with 26 runs scored.

John Andreoli [Iowa Cubs - AAA (Chicago Cubs)]:

  • Week: Andreoli continued his hot streak, slashing .385/.515/.385 in a 10-26 week. He had four multi-hit games and walked seven times. He was 3-4 on stolen base attempts and had three RBI to go along with seven runs.
  • Season: Andreoli has hit .258/.368/.409 in 112 games. He is 27-36 in stolen base attempts. He has 11 home runs, 52 RBI and 77 runs scored. He's added 15 doubles and seven triples.

Matt Barnes [Boston Red Sox]:

  • Week: Barnes got 2.0 innings in this week, in two appearances. He notched four strikeouts and only allowed one hit. He did not allow any runs.
  • Season: In 51.0 innings pitched, Barnes has made 41 appearances, all in relief. He has a 3.00 ERA, a 1.24 WHIP and 51 strikeouts against 20 walks.

Carson Cross [State College Spikes - A- Short Season (St. Louis Cardinals)]:

  • Week: Cross made a start on Tuesday, pitching 7.0 innings in a no decision. He scattered two runs over six hits. He struck out six and walked two.
  • Season: Cross has pitched 53.2 innings in nine starts, with a 3-3 record. Batters have hit .268 against him and he has a WHIP of 1.30, as well as an ERA of 3.35. He has 32 strikeouts against 15 walks and has hit three batters.

LJ Mazzilli [Binghamton Mets - AA/Las Vegas 51s - AAA (New York Mets)]:

  • Week: Mazzilli hit 3-15 this week with a slash line of .200/.200/.400, adding a solo home run for AA Binghamton before playing one game for AAA Las Vegas. He went 1-4 with two runs, an RBI and a walk in Las Vegas.
  • Season: In 97 games between AA and AAA, Mazzilli has hit .244/.332/.346 with 12 doubles, five triples and 37 RBI. He has worked 45 walks and has scored 46 runs. He is 6-8 stealing bases. He was promoted to AAA Las Vegas on August 5.

Max McDowell [Wisconsin Timber Rattlers - A (Milwaukee Brewers)]:

  • Week: McDowell had a 6-18 week but was still able to reach base, slashing .333/.429/.389. He scored four runs and had two RBI. He was 1-1 on stolen base attempts and struck out once this week.
  • Season: In 79 games, McDowell has hit .288/.366/.375. He has 22 RBI and 20 doubles. He is 15-18 on stolen base attempts. He was named a Midwest League All-Star starter.

Bobby Melley [Princeton Rays - Rookie (Tampa Bay Rays)]:

  • Week: Melley had a slash line of .250/.400/.500 in a 4-16 week. He had two RBI and one run and had two extra-base hits.
  • Season: Melley made his debut on June 23 after signing a minor league deal with the Tampa Bay Rays on June 21. In 27 games, he has slashed .322/.410/.496, hitting three home runs and 11 doubles to go along with 21 RBI and 25 runs.

Greg Nappo [New Orleans Zephyrs - AAA (Miami Marlins)]:

  • Week: Nappo made one appearance, throwing 2.2 innings. He allowed one unearned run and did not allow a hit. He walked two and struck out two.
  • Season: In 20 appearances with one start, Nappo has pitched 50.1 innings. He has a WHIP of 1.45 to go along with 41 strikeouts and 25 walks. He has an ERA of 4.11.

Scott Oberg [Colorado Rockies]:

  • Week: Oberg made three appearances, throwing 2.2 innings. He struck out three, walked two and allowed one earned run to go along with one hit.
  • Season: In two stints with Albuquerque and three with Colorado, he has pitched in 44 games, 17 for Colorado and 27 for Albuquerque. In AAA, he is 8-9 on save opportunities and has a BAA of .160 as well as a WHIP of 0.90, striking out 36 batters in 29.2 innings. In MLB, he has thrown 20.1 innings, striking out 12 and walking eight. He has a BAA of .240 and a WHIP of 1.28.

Tyler Olander [Gulf Coast Blue Jays- Rookie (Toronto Blue Jays)]:

  • Week: Olander made one appearance, a start. He threw 1.0 innings, allowing no runs on one hit. He did not record a strikeout and walked one.
  • Season: He was assigned to Bluefield on June 24 and was assigned to GCL Blue Jays on July 26. He has made two appearances, throwing 2.0 innings. He struck out one, walked three and allowed two hits. He did not allow any runs.

Mike Olt [San Antonio Missions - AA (San Diego Padres)]:

  • Week: Olt has yet to be activated from the disabled list. He can be activated at any time.
  • Season: In 52 games between AAA and AA, Olt hit .253/.369/.398. He has 25 RBI while scoring 25 runs, working 31 walks. He has five home runs on the season. He was placed on the 7-day DL on June 15 retroactive to June 13.

Patrick Ruotolo [Salem-Keizer - A-Short Season (San Francisco Giants)]:

  • Week: Ruotolo made one appearance, allowing one hit and registering three strikeouts while not allowing a walk. He did not allow a run.
  • Season: Ruotolo made his professional debut on June 22 after signing his minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants on June 17. He has pitched 15.1 innings, allowing eight hits and an unearned run. He has struck out 28 and has walked seven. He was promoted to A- Short Season on July 7.

Vinny Siena [St. Lucie Mets - A+ (New York Mets)]:

  • Week: Siena went 3-14 this week, slashing .214/.313/.214. Siena did not have an extra-base hit and walked twice.
  • Season: Siena has played in 96 games between A and A+, hitting .277/.403/.360. He has 66 runs, four triples and 21 RBI to go along with 20 doubles and 65 walks. He is 9-10 on stolen base attempts. He was named a South Atlantic League All-Star starter.

George Springer [Houston Astros]:

  • Week: Springer had a slash line of .185/.313/.259 in a 5-27 week this week. He walked four times and hit two doubles while being hit by a pitch. He was also 1-2 on stolen base attempts.
  • Season: In 110 games, Springer is hitting .253/.350/.457 with 22 home runs and 60 RBI. He has scored 76 runs, hitting 17 doubles to go along with three triples. He finished second in the AL All-Star final vote.

Jack Sundberg [Auburn Doubledays - A- Short Season (Washington Nationals)]:

  • Week: Sundberg had a .250/.400/.250 week, hitting 4-16. He walked four times, scored two runs and did not strike out this week.
  • Season: Sundberg made his professional debut on June 24 after signing a minor league contract with the Washington Nationals on June 20. He has slashed .276/.373/.379 in 23 games between the GCL Nationals and the Auburn Doubledays. He is 5-7 on stolen base attempts. He was promoted to A- Short Season on July 5.

Women's Basketball

The WNBA is off for a month due to the Olympics. Teams return to action on August 26.

Sue Bird [Seattle Storm]:

  • This Week: Begins Olympic play today.
  • Season: In 24 games, is averaging 12.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists.

Swin Cash [New York Liberty]:

  • Season: In 23 games, is averaging 5.2 points and 3.3 rebounds.

Tina Charles [New York Liberty]:

  • This Week: Begins Olympic play today.
  • Season: In 25 games, is leading the league in scoring with 21.4 points and 9.6 rebounds along with 3.7 assists per game.

Stefanie Dolson [Washington Mystics]:

  • Season: In 24 games, is averaging 8 points and 4.7 rebounds.

Kelly Faris [Connecticut Sun]:

  • Season: In 22 games, is averaging 2 points and 1 rebounds.

Bria Hartley [Washington Mystics]:

  • Season: In 24 games, is averaging 6.5 rebounds, 2 rebounds and 2.3 assists.

Tiffany Hayes [Atlanta Dream]:

  • Season: In 24 games, is averaging 14.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists.

Moriah Jefferson [San Antonio Stars]:

  • Season: In 23 games, is averaging 12.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 4 assists.

Renee Montgomery [Minnesota Lynx]:

  • Season: In 25 games, is averaging 7.8 points, 3.0 assists and 1.1 steals.

  • This Week: Begins Olympic play today.
  • Season: In 25 games, is averaging 19.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.4 assists.

  • Season: In 22 games, is averaging 4.7 points and 0.8 assists.

Breanna Stewart [Seattle Storm]:

  • This Week: Begins Olympic play today.
  • Season: In 24 games, is averaging 19.2 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 blocks.

Kiah Stokes [New York Liberty]:

  • Season: In 26 games, is averaging 7.1 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.4 blocks.

Diana Taurasi [Phoenix Mercury]:

  • Week: Allowed 2 goals and made six saves in 2-2 tie with DC United.

Tony Cascio [Arizona United SC - USL]:

  • Week: Did not play in Arizona United's 3-2 win over Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2
  • Season: In 14 games, has two assists with five shots.

George Fochive [Viborg FF - Danish Superliga]:

  • Week: Did not play in 0-0 tie with OB.
  • Season: 1 game played, 1 start.

Julius James [Ft. Lauderdale Strikers - NASL]:

  • Week: Did not have a shot in 2-1 loss to Tampa Bay Rowdies.
  • Season: 10 games played, no shots.

Josh Ford [San Antonio FC - USL]:

  • Week: Made six saves in 1-1 tie with Sacramento Republic FC.
  • Season:  Is 5-4-6 with a 0.89 GAA and 76.9% save percentage.

Cyle Larin [Orlando City SC - MLS]:

  • Week: In action tonight vs Seattle Sounders at 7 p.m.
  • Season: In 19 games, had 10 goals and 3 assists on 48 shots (23 on goal).

Shawn Nicklaw [Jacksonville Armada - NASL]:

  • Week: Played all 90 minutes in 1-0 win over Carolina Railhawks. Picked up a yellow card in FC Edmonton's 1-0 win over Puerto Rico FC.
  • Season: Was traded to FC Edmonton from Jacksonville on July 6. In 6 six games with Jacksonville Armada had three shots. Has one shot in six games with FC Edmonton.

Women's Soccer

Stephanie Labbe [Washington Spirit - NWSL]:

  • Week: Picked up 2-0 win over Australia for Team Canada in their first game in Rio. Did not play in 3-1 win over Zimbabwe.
  • Season: In eight games for Washington, she is 5-2-1 with a 0.88 goals against average with a save percentage of 80%.

Brittany Taylor [FC Kansas City - NWSL]:

  • Week: Is off for Olympic break.
  • Season: In 15 games, has taken 9 shots.

Football

Martin Bedard [Montreal Alouettes - CFL]:

  • Week: Was the long snapper in Montreal's 38-18 loss to BC.
  • Season: 6 games, one tackle.

Reuben Frank [Edmonton Eskimos - CFL]:

  • Week: Did not have a tackle in 23-20 loss to Ottawa.
  • Season: 6 games, 6 tackles, 1 QB sack, 1 blocked punt, 1 fumble recovery, 1 touchdown

Jesse Joseph [Montreal Alouettes - CFL]:

  • Week: Did not play in 38-18 loss to BC.
  • Season: 1 game, 1 tackle, 1 sack.

Alex Mateas [Ottawa Redblacks - CFL]:

  • Week: started at right guard in 23-20 loss to Toronto and 23-20 win over Edmonton.
  • Season: Has made seven starts and has one tackle on a turnover.

Larry Taylor [Toronto Argonauts - CFL]:

  • Week: Had five punt returns for 40 yards and three kickoff returns for 71 yards in 23-20 win over Ottawa.
  • Season: 6 games, 650 total return yards.
