Every year since 2005, an MLS All-Star team has faced off against a club from a top European League. This year, Arsenal of the English Premier League will be coming in to face the 26-man MLS All-Star team. UConn fans should tune in for the opportunity to watch two former Husky stars.
Forward Orlando City’s Cyle Larin and Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Andre Blake were among the 24 coaches’ picks for the MLS squad. The remaining two spots are selected by the MLS commissioner.
Larin, a second year forward for Orlando City, was selected first overall in the 2015 draft after spending two years at UConn. He has made 16 starts in 18 games played and has scored nine goals to go along with three assists. He has 43 shots, 21 of which are on target. Larin is tied for third in MLS in goals, three behind leader David Villa.
Blake was also selected first overall, in the 2014 draft, and is in his third season after three years at UConn. He has a 7-6-5 record in 18 starts, with four shut outs and 56 saves on the season. Blake is tied for ninth in shut outs and is eighth in saves.
The match against Arsenal will take place in San Jose on July 28 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
