Long Beach State athletic director Vic Cegles will be heading to UConn, according to a report from the Press-Telegram.
Cegles has accepted a position to work with new UConn athletic director David Benedict, who was a senior athletic department member at Long Beach State under Cegles, the report said.
Cegles was the 12th athletic director in Long Beach State's history. After the 2014-15 season, he was named the Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year.
Since joining the school in April 2006, Cegles has overseen an era of great success at Long Beach State. The 49ers have won five consecutive Commissioner's Cups coming into this season (the Commissioner's Cup is the Big West Conference's award for the top overall athletic program each year).
Under Cegles, Long Beach State scored above the required 925 on the Academic Progress Rate (APR), the only California State University to do so under the four-year standard, for a ninth consecutive year all NCAA sponsored teams.
