The UConnBlog-cketology: Championship Week Opening Edition

Troy Caldeira/The UConn Blog

We're in the thick of it now. Championship Week is here! Five days for us all to be completely terrified leading up to UConn-Cincinnati III. I will probably provide frequent updates this week as bids go out, especially if there are upsets.

Upsets would be bad for UConn.

Root against upsets.

  • The win over UCF gets UConn back up to the 9 line. As bad as the last week was, the body of work for UConn is pretty solid. I disagree with the notion that they HAVE to beat Cincinnati to get in, but I understand it and don't want to have to worry about it.
  • Along those lines, I don't get the idea that Wichita State won't make it in. The Van Vleet injury, the mostly solid computer numbers (with just one top-70 win). Their biggest chip is a blowout over Utah- if Utah wins the Pac-12 Tournament, Wichita State's metrics will be along for the ride.
  • Yale!
  • Cincinnati's impressive performance on Sunday gets them in as one of my final at-large teams. They need Friday's game more than UConn does. Even though they beat them twice. And finished above them. This is because their OOC was horrendous.
  • Check out HoopsHD.com all week as they update their survival board of who is still alive to win the National Championship, plus their full schedule of all conference tournaments + TV info!
