The Huskies have their work cut out for them against a solid New Hampshire team. They need to avoid a loss to maintain their chances of hosting a Hockey East Tournament series.

1:37 - GOAL UConn - Joe Masonius fires one from in front of his own net at the empty UNH net to put this one out of reach! 4-1 UConn

FINAL: Huge win for UConn at home over UNH, 4-1. Huskies even with UNH for 8th in Hockey East, one point ahead of Merrimack, who is playing Vermont right now.

Second Period

20:00 - Second period is underway!

17:20 - GOAL UNH - Jamie Hills sends a slap shot past Rob Nichols to cut the Husky lead in half. 2-1 UConn

14:23 - There have been eleven penalties so far in this game, seven in the first period.

9:22 - Six penalties in the second period has us at 13 on the game.

END 2nd Period: New Hampshire's goal was the only major action in another period dominated by penalties. Huskies doing a nice job defensively and of keeping the pressure up themselves. They'll need to bring more of it in the third period if they want to hold on to this lead and give some juice to tomorrow night's matchup at New Hampshire!

First Period

20:00 - We are underway at XL!

13:42 - GOAL UConn - Corey Ronan takes a pass from Joe Masonius, skates around his defender and slides one past Danny Tirone to give the Huskies the lead! 1-0 UConn

10:16 - GOAL UConn - Senior Shawn Pauly knocks in a rebound off a Max Letunov shot while the Huskies had a 5-on-3 advantage. 2-0 UConn

END 1st Period: UConn started off dominant in the first period, manufacturing a lot of nice chances early before getting on the board with Corey Ronan's shorthanded goal, which simply came on a nice individual effort. The Huskies doubled their lead with a 5-on-3 goal and followed it up with some nice intensity and a few more chances at net.

UNH came on strong a bit towards the end of the period, which is why they're ahead in shots, but the Huskies are playing as well as they have in the past month tonight as they look to move ahead of the Wildcats in the standings. UConn needs a win or tie to remain eligible for a top-8 seed.

***

We're just a few minutes away from puck drop here at the XL Center. The UConn Huskies have their final home game of the season tonight against the University of New Hampshire in a series which will help decide who is hosting in the first round of the conference tournament.

A loss would knock the Huskies out of contention for a top-8 spot and a chance to host the opening round of the Hockey East Tournament at their fan-friendly home in Hartford. With a tie, UConn would need to win tomorrow evening on the road in order to pass UNH in the standings.

Five graduating seniors will be honored tonight as part of Senior Night festivities: Patrick Kirtland, Shawn Pauly, Joey Ferriss and Kyle Huson. Tyler Helton, who played for the Huskies as a freshman and has served as a team manager for the past three seasons, will also receive recognition.

We'll have regular updates here, and you can listen in on WTIC with Bob Joyce and Rich Coppola on the call!
