UConn Men’s Soccer Has Much To Play For on Final Weekend

The Huskies control their own destiny when it comes to qualifying for the conference tournament.

Three weeks ago, UConn Men’s Soccer was tied for first in the conference ahead of a big match with USF. Unfortunately, the Huskies lost to the Bulls and have not won a conference game since, with one remaining against SMU at Morrone Stadium.

UConn still controls its own destiny and will be off to Tampa for the four-team conference tournament with a victory over the Mustangs. However, a loss would eliminate them from contention and would likely end their season, as a fifth-place team in the American Athletic Conference likely would not be selected for the NCAA Tournament.

Tulsa and Memphis finished their season on Friday night, with Tulsa getting the win over Memphis by a score of 2-0. Here are the standings with one match to go for the remaining six teams in the conference, all of which are on Saturday.

Team Points Goal Differential Matches Remaining
USF 15 +5 Temple
Tulsa 13 +5
UConn 9 +3 SMU
Cincinnati 9 -2 @ UCF
Temple 8 -3 @ USF
Memphis 7 -5
SMU 6 -1 @ UConn
UCF 6 -2 Cincy

UConn can finish everywhere from third in the conference to seventh in the conference depending on what happens in the matches on Saturday.

They finish third if...

UConn wins OR

UConn draws AND Cincinnati does not win AND Temple does not win

They finish fourth if...

UConn draws AND Cincinnati OR Temple wins

They finish fifth if...

UConn draws AND Cincinnati wins AND Temple wins

UConn loses

They finish sixth if...

UConn loses AND Temple OR Cincinnati wins

They finish seventh if...

UConn loses AND Temple wins
