In their final two matches of the regular season, UConn women’s soccer picked up two wins to clinch the American Athletic Conference regular season title. They beat Cincinnati on the road on Thursday by a score of 2-0. On Sunday against East Carolina, they allowed an early goal but Stephanie Ribeiro scored a pair of goals to give the Huskies a 2-1 victory.

For their efforts, UConn earned two Player of the Week honors from The American in the final week of the regular season.

In what has become a regular occurrence, Ribeiro took home Offensive Player of the Week. She scored both the goals on Sunday and one on Thursday, notching the game winner in both games. Ribeiro has also scored in UConn’s last five matches and got her 10th and 11th game-winners on the year.

Emily Armstrong made 15 saves on 16 shots between the two victories and was rewarded with Goalkeeper of the Week honors. She had a season-high 10 saves in the win against Cincinnati.

The Huskies will next play on Friday night in an AAC Tournament semifinal. They will be playing the winner of USF and Cincinnati at Morrone Stadium with kickoff coming at 7:00 p.m.

Men’s hockey also added a pair of award winners in Hockey East. Adam Huska was named Defensive Player of the Week, while Maxim Letunov took home a top performer honor.

Huska played in one of the two games that UConn played against No. 7 Notre Dame, earning the win. He made 47 saves on 48 shots in Thursday’s 4-2 victory.

Letunov scored two goals on the weekend, both of which were in Thursday’s victory. He scored UConn’s second goal, which was on the power play. He also added an empty-netter and the two goals were his first and second on the season. He now is tied for second with Evan Richardson on the squad in points (2-5—7).
