Will Amida Brimah be playing for the first time in 11 games today?

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Kevin Ollie's UConn Huskies are in Orlando today to take on the UCF Knights at CFE Arena. The Knight have lost two straight and are 10-8 with some stinky losses to Miami (OH) and Detroit.

The Huskies were looking for their fourth straight win on Thursday night when Mick Cronin's Cincinnati Bearcats visited the XL Center. Unfortunately, Cincinnati converted a three-point play with about 12 seconds left down two and held on to win. It was a back-and-forth game which came down to the final possession, but UConn's careless play and cold shooting led to the Huskies' sixth loss on the season and third in conference play.

While it may be easy to panic, and believe that this team simply doesn't have "it," the Huskies have been playing without Amida Brimah and have lost all six games to quality opponents. In a year where good teams are losing baffling games across the board, UConn really doesn't have anything to be ashamed about. The NCAA Tournament committee will factor in the injury when reviewing the Huskies' resumé.

While the Huskies have done a decent job of treading water since Brimah's injury, grabbing solid wins over Texas, Memphis and Georgetown, the beat writers at the game are reporting that Brimah may be back in action for this matchup with UCF.

Hopefully Brimah's return bodes well for his frequent alley-oop partner, Daniel Hamilton. The sophomore has been struggling mightily shooting from the field just when it was starting to look like he may be the consistent leader this team needs. Perhaps having Brimah to lob passes to down low will help open things up for him.
