As the UConn Huskies (14-10, 7-5 AAC) deal with the closing stretch of their schedule, they've hit a point where the regular season is strictly window dressing. Their loss at SMU may have been the death blow to their dreams of getting an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. It will take them winning the American Athletic Conference tournament in Hartford in early March in order to get a chance to defend their championship.
That being said, this match-up with Memphis (15-10, 7-5 AAC) will be a fun one. In what is a down year for both sides, these two are still amongst the most successful programs in the AAC. Under coach Josh Pastner, the Tigers have made four consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament.
As for the Huskies, right now is all about building confidence and establishing a winning mentality with eyes locked on the conference tournament. As has been the case all year, tonight rests on the shoulders of the supporting cast. Ryan Boatright has been sensational, scoring at least 18 points in his last eight games. Other than him though, the Huskies have struggled. Consistent scoring from secondary threats has been a struggle all year. If UConn wants to build any momentum starting tonight, they need some combination of Rodney Purvis, Omar Calhoun, Daniel Hamilton and Terrence Samuel to step up on offense.
Even with both teams struggling, whenever UConn and Memphis meet is a good time. Come follow along here on the thread.
