De’Janae Boykin to Leave UConn Women's Basketball Program

Things don't always work out the way you want for recruits when they commit to a school as is the case with De’Janae Boykin

In recruiting you are going to win some battles and you're going to lose some battles. And even though you're pretty sure that the recruit will work out fine at your school, that's not always the case.

And as we saw with Elena Della Donne, sometimes they can get homesick. Apparently that is a part of the reason behind freshman forward De’Janae Boykin's decision to leave the UConn women's basketball program.

"Recently De’Janae expressed her desire to be closer to home," Head coach Geno Auriemma said in a statement from the school. "She is a great kid and I am glad I was able to get to know De’Janae and her family. The entire coaching staff and team wish her nothing but the best in the future."

Boykins had not been with the team because of her rehab but also due to academic issues. She was the No. 23 prospect in the class of 2015 according to ESPN.

She will finish up the semester by taking her final exams before her transfer is complete.
